Barack Obama, Antichrist or Messiah?

Popular opinion has split regarding Barack Obama, junior Senator from Illinois and Democratic Presidential candidate. Some feel that he is the answer to the nation's ills while others believe he is not. The sentiments on either side are strongly held.

I was surprised last week when one of the respondents to a previous post, Your Friendly Doomsday Scenario, suggested that religious people had tagged Obama as the Antichrist. The Antichrist is a biblical character who will be the cure-all, but end-all for world civilization.

After some searching, I was rather surprised to find the numerous articles and blog posts about just such a subject. For example, Amy Sullivan, TIME Magazine correspondent documents the many parallels people have tried to establish between Obama and the False Messiah. Proving Obama to be the Antichrist seems to be the passion of several sites (1, 2, 3).

In the same week, Louis Farrakhan, Nation of Islam Leader, declared Obama to be the Messiah. (It's sort of a spooky speech. Watch it here.) Then I came across a tongue-in-cheek blog that exists to promote Obama as the Messiah and is peddling "sacred relics."

My thoughts? This over-the-top language does no one any good. For those who deem Obama to be the Messiah or a Messiah-like figure, I suspect these will be disappointed to find him to be a mere mortal with all of the inconsistencies and failings as the rest of us. He will do his best, but he will make mistakes.

To those who view Obama as the Antichrist, these fall into the same trap as others who suggested John F. Kennedy, Mikhail Gorbachev, or Henry Kissinger as nominees for this dubious position. Demonizing Obama as the unholy terror of the Man of Sin is not only unprofitable, it calls into question the critic's character. Judging others is rough business.

He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666. (Revelation 13:16-18, NIV).

Come on fellas, are some of you "patriots" and religious wackos already thinking about blowing his head off??

Frankly I find nothing special about him at all other then he's black.

One of my black employees asked me if Obama was white how far ahead in the polls would I think he would be , when I responded if Obama was white he would of never won the nomination it caught the fellow of guard.

I'm not sure he will be elected President in 2 weeks now. Hired Acorn, and a month before the election Acorn was busted in 8 states. Had a Resco deal come out at the same time the worst mortgage crisis in America hit. Do you think he would even get 10%?

Try this:

Religion is about worshiping God and doing your best to follow His commandments. You hippies and liberals have tried to make it something where you ignore sin and refuse to condemn it, where you reinterpret God's Word to mean things other than what it says in black and white, like when some denominations ordain gay priests or preachers or some big churches worry more about their collections than anything else so they don't offend sinners who might stop giving money for their fancy buildings and such, so they fail to condemn their unrighteous ways.

Obama says he is hope and change. We are the ones we've been waiting for. He tells college kids in ohio that he is a devout christian and to ignore the apostle paul. I have yet to hear him correct his nutbag supporters when they call him the messiah. He's got all those creepy logos. 3 gay guys in his trinity church end up murdered execution style last year. Could you imagine if 3 people were murdered in Palins chuch? I don't know where he's going with all of this.

I thought for a while that he might be the antichrist, but a thorough search of the Revelation came up with no description of the antichrist looking like Curious George. So I guess he isn't.
