The buyers are back picking up the pieces.

This is good. Gold and silver will plunge and thus time to buy those. Got to stock up before Ubangi takes over.

First, its not a gain, unless of course you think that when you find the $100 you lost the day before your are now $100 richer.

Wait until it fills the gap it left this morning, its more likely to do that on the way right back down when people figure out that companies like Arcelor Mittal have cancelled hiring plans and are in the process of planning large scale layoffs.

Yup.

It's only temporary. The short sellers are back. Tomorrow or the day after they will sell it off like crazy. This ''rally'' is basically SPECULATION at its best.

You can make a lot of money on speculation....

But... the problems with this rally were:

1. It's a bank holiday.
2. The bond market was closed today
3. We were buying on the rumor of the TARP rollout today, but may well sell the news tomorrow.
4. This is OPEX week.
5. Earnings season is moving into high gear.

Was time for me to get a little bit short tonight, maybe a whole lot short tomorrow.

Up 950? Oh Shit!

Another day of this will mean that Hussein can't talk down the economy or he's gonna look like he's trying to sabotage it (like he has been all along), and then he'll have to start answering Real questions about Ayers, and Al-Mansour and Khalidi and...

Three weeks Rats. Here it comes!

This has gone up way too far, way too fast. Got long the double short QQQQ's (QID) when NQ was up 3.5% in premarket, as QQQQ's were up 25% since Friday. Gain in the last hour and a half has been nearly 4%. Also nibbled some SKF, the double short banking sector ETF. The TARP deal has got to destroy the equity value of a lot of banks when the dividend restriction and common buyback part sinks in. Banks have been turned into regulated utilities, and are still de-leveraging. NQ futures now about to turn negative.... I don't think we hold green by the end of the day.

Options expiration is Friday. The real fireworks should happen tomorrow. The huge put open interest says they will take us back down again, at least to opening levels on Monday, maybe more.

QQQQ's just turned red. The Naz lead us up, it will lead us back down over the next 24 hours.

P.S. added 30 minutes later.

Naz is now 1.3% red, wouldn't be surprised if it closes 4 to 5% red.

You were right, Jag. The market went down 3.54% today .....at one time during the afternoon it was down 4.3%, and so the proshares went up, accordingly.

SKF went from 105 this morning to 114, hit 123 during the day and QID went up 6.9%,

Good job! Hope you made some nice earnings, Jag.

Nice gains for the day, but this is not a market that makes you feel comfortable holding much of anything overnight. Just be nimble. Tomorrow will be the options expiration churn, and VIX is headed back north.

Yes... they did take it down below Monday's opening as you said...

Dow 8,576.24 -734.75 (-7.89%)

Nasdaq 1,628.33 -150.68 (-8.47%)

S&P 500 907.79 -90.22 (-9.04%)

So... are we in recession officially or too early to tell, Jag?

Wild day! Worst single day drop since 1987.

Traders live for volatility. This market is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. The QID, the double pump inverse of the Nasdaq 100 stocks, went from 57.50 at the open Tuesday (actually 56.00 in premarket) to 79.11 today. Wow... over 37% on an INDEX ...not a single stock... only about 14 hours of trading. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Maybe the limits of the trading range have been set - about 7800 to 9800 in terms of Dow points. As long as this works, we go rail to rail on the 1 hour stochastic charts and, stomach acid aside, it becomes an ATM machine. But, still crazy. Mutual funds are throwing out everything at the end of the day to raise cash at the end of the day. We dropped nearly 300 Dow points in the last half hour. This on a day with no real news. Just John and Jane Q public cashing in their mutual funds.

The futures are still selling off another 15 points on S&P after the close, and VIX up in the high 68's again. Futures tonight are saying we will test Friday's lows on the open tomorrow. I think we'll hold again, and if so we'll have a nice "W" formation on the daily S&P chart since Oct. 1. A nice bullish signal.

A recession is defined as two successive quarters of negative GDP. Those numbers come out of some bureaucracy in D.C. and all all rear view mirror stuff. The markets look ahead 3 or 6 or 9 months. They have decided that's where we are.

Don't try to grasp a falling knife.

Expect DJIA will go down to 6,000.
Will break soon the 8,000 floor.

After it reaches 6,000 something, it's time to buy again.
Cash out now, and keep cash in your pocket: bank accounts to be frozen very soon.

Are people gonna stop buying Scotch tape, gasoline, Kraft Macaroni, Coca Cola, Crest toothpaste and Viagra at Walmart? NO. Those are all companies on the Dow 30.

Oh, and eating Big Mac's and their new menu items, McLatte's and McCappucinno's?

Or visiting Disneyland?

Do you understand what happens to net earnings when a company looses 10% or more of its gross revenue, it has a few choices when its largest cost is labor.
