Emirates suspends Airbus A380 flights - electrical malfunction or shower problems?

Electric fault, as the airline says, or mile-high-shower messing with avionics panel?

Seems the big bad mama of the skies has a problem. An electric problem has seen Emirates, the biggest buyer of Airbus A380 planes, has suspended flights of the so-called Superjumbo.

Emirates Airline, a subsidiary of the Emirates Group based in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has announced that the engineers are working on an electrical fault in the Airbus A380 Superjumbo. The airline had launched a non-stop service with the Airbus A380 between Dubai and New York on August 1, 2008.

Emirates Airline is the largest customer of the Airbus A380 Superjumbo, with a total of 58 on order.
The British newspaper Telegraph quoted a spokesman of Emirates Airline as saying that “the planned engineering work was taking longer than expected” and that the fault “was noticed at the end of a training mission.”

Emirates, meanwhile, denied widespread rumours on the internet forums of air travel websites that the problems with the Superjumbo jets were linked to bathrooms in the Superjumbo’s first class.

What rumors? The water heater for the showers in bathrooms burnt out an avionics panel, is what the rumors on the internets say. The Emirates Airbus A380 is the first carrier to offer a mile-high shower to those rich passengers who can’t be bothered to take a shower before they leave for the airport.

The mile-high shower in the Emirates Airbus A380 had attracted criticism from environmental groups, as the plane would have to carry an extra 2000 pounds of water - the weight of around 12 passengers. Not exactly environment-friendly, considering the water wasted and extra fuel burned to lift all that water for the dirty passengers.

Its not like its any real luxury either. Its a 5-minute shower, as the dirty passenger has washed himself halfway down, an alarm would sound informing him of the impending end of water-supply. Emirates never explained what would happen if the passenger had not washed the soap off totally. We know there is a bathroom sink, but still…

HAHAHAHHA...

ok, lets read that one more time in case someone missed it

The water heater for the showers in bathrooms burnt out an avionics panel..

HAHAHHAHA...

:D

now does anyone really expect a French engineer to actually know what a shower is?

well, I listened into the conversation with one French engineer...

Jean, wat iz zis zwoher, iz it zometing neu, a grandes idea? Zee Emirates want zometing called a zwoher and iz is zometing I non hear of. I called my grandefather an ask him:

Why the fuck does an airplane need a shower on it in the first place?

But then again, what does the world need with the A380? A worthless feature on a white elephant.

Why does an Arab plane need a shower? The only bigger mystery would be, why a French plane would need a shower on it ...

Showers on an aircraft today are an absolutely vainglorious, ridiculous, ostentatious, pretentious and unnecessary gimmick.

Don't these people change their clothes after they shower?

Do they carry a spare set of clothes in their hand-luggage?

Are the showers and bathrooms cleaned after each use?

Do you have to book your time slot?

What happens if the water runs out and you're still soaping your hair?

What happens if the aircraft encounters turbulence and the captain turns on the seatbelt sign? Are you exempt from the laws of physics because you're under the shower?

Only a company like Airbus that lost the plot years ago could come up with an already failed aircraft like the A380 and a completly ridiculous concept like onboard public showers.

French management and engineering -- as useful as last month's weather forecast.

How come none of FF's French aerospace experts has even attempted a bullshit answer the quick questions I came up with here?

Cowardice? The French?

Surely not...,

What questions ?

If the customer want showers, they add showers. If they want a squash court, they will add a squash court.

Why does that make you ill ?

Not neccesarily, you can just turn them inside out ;)

Do they carry a spare set of clothes in their hand-luggage?

Oh noooo, that will not be allowed, like you can't bring beer into a ball game, there will be a fasionable duty free botique for clothes :P

Are the showers and bathrooms cleaned after each use?

You mean people might use these rooms to beat off, piss on the wall, or join the mile high club? There will be cleaning servant's quarters for this, I'm sure.

Do you have to book your time slot?

No, what happens in the air, stays in the air, buddy up :D

What happens if the water runs out and you're still soaping your hair?

That will result in a new hairstyle, referred to as "The 380" or "Air Hair" and wil be all the rage amongst the wealthy.

What happens if the aircraft encounters turbulence and the captain turns on the seatbelt sign? Are you exempt from the laws of physics because you're under the shower?

Of course not, a giant set of tongs will automatically extend from the wall, and grab your ass!

In heavy turbulence does the used water fly up out of the drain so the passenger gets to use it again? ... If it goes clear to the ceiling and drenches the light does it short out the electrical system?

The life of a french engineer is so complicated (sigh).

Can anyone else remember when an airline actually couldn't fly its ONLY Airbus aircraft of the type?

Oh yes, I can.

Singapore Airlines, when it only had one and then two A380s go unserviceable (broken fuel pumps, etc). So, two airlines have received the A380, two years LATE, and both of them have had to ground the aircraft since...

The A380's is clearly the least successful introduction of any commerical airliner in the jet age.

And even when Emirates finally gets its sole A380 into the air, it's then CUTTING its New York flights from three round-trips to two per week to allow for "crew training and engineering work".

So, the piece of Airbus shit will only make FOUR FLIGHTS per WEEK?

ROFLMKSAO. What a white elephant indeed.

During this time, boeing works 24/7 on its 187 project in order to make its first flight and get the certification before december 2008.

Well done, Dasboot!
A couple of days more and you would have posted this old piece of news after Emirates have resumed their A380 operations... :D

Caldoche gave me lessons of "arithmetics" in another thread because he considers that 45,46,47 is not "approaching" 50.
In another thread, he said that Emirates would ground its A380 for up to a month.www.fuckfrance.com . . .
In fact, 4 or 5 days:

Image hotlink - 'http://content.emirates.com/uk/english/Images/Emirates-A380-3LI_tcm275-342365.jpg'

Emirates A380 flies on Sept 12

Commercial flights of Emirates A380 to New York will resume on Friday, September 12, Khaleej Times has reported.
Emirates has temporarily replaced the Dubai-New York route with twice-a-day flights using its Boeing 777-300ER. Emirates is currently operating the A380 to New York twice a week for the month of September because of training requirements.

No, moron, you are wrong YET AGAIN. The article quoted TWO sources -- one the airline, one a crew family member. The latter suggested a month, as you know.

So, when are you going to answer the questions about A380 showers, moron?

You can't?

Why not?

Cos you're an arsehole?

Oh, ok.

Never forget that Airbus still remains an European consortium, with many other countries than France involved in. The fact you
think that putting a shower inside of a plane might be a French
shower puzzle me a bit :).

I suppose all they'd have to do is refurbish some old portable pissoirs with some new chrome, turn them upside down, reverse flow, and Viola! ... you have your A380 showers.

Lower level showers could be fed from upper level toilets, saving water. ... The French wouldn't notice the difference.

Problem solved.
